What Is The Human Edge?

In a world built by AI, the edge belongs to humans who know how to use it.

We're living through the fastest cognitive shift in human history. And yet most performance advice hasn't changed since the industrial era — work harder, push through, optimize your morning routine.

The Human Edge is built on a different premise. Performance is a design problem. The human brain is extraordinarily capable — but only when the conditions are right. The science is clear. The application is rare.

That's what I spend my time on: translating neuroscience and organizational design into frameworks that actually work in the real world of high stakes, fast timelines, and a rapidly evolving relationship with AI.

The Story

The long version.

I grew up believing performance was about effort. If you weren't succeeding, you weren't trying hard enough. That belief took me a long way.

It got me a neuroscience degree from Emory. An MBA. A seat at the table inside some of the most dynamic organizations I've ever encountered — CNN, 1-800-FLOWERS, and eventually Dropbox, where I led Design Operations across a 160-person org through two acquisitions.

And then the belief broke.

Not dramatically. Not in one moment. But slowly, over years of watching brilliant people grind themselves down and call it performance. Of seeing AI reshape what work means in real time. Of realizing that the frameworks we were using — productivity hacks, hustle culture, "just push through" — were built for a world that no longer exists.

So I started asking a different question.

Not: how do people work harder? But: how do people actually work — at a neurological level — and what does that mean for how we should design our work, our teams, and our relationship with the tools we're building?

The Human Edge is the answer I'm still building. It's a framework, a content platform, a coaching practice, and an ongoing investigation into the one thing AI can't replicate: the full range of human capability, operating at its best.

Performance is a design problem, not a willpower problem.

Struggling isn't a character flaw. It's usually a signal that the environment, structure, or system isn't designed for how humans actually work.

The human edge isn't threatened by AI. It's revealed by it.

As machines take over execution, what's left is everything that's distinctly human: judgment, creativity, empathy, leadership, adaptability. Those aren't soft skills — they're the hard advantage.

You can't optimize your way to a meaningful life.

Productivity without purpose is just efficient misery. The real work is figuring out what you're optimizing for — and then designing the conditions that make it possible.
